“It was awesome! I really enjoyed learning about all the possible careers in the different fields of aviation. These days are great for staff and can help us suggest ideas and career pathways for students to explore.”

- High School Teacher

“I learned that there is a job for everyone in IT and Computer Science! I was totally unaware of many of these jobs. It was great to hear about IT jobs and the varied pathways people took to get to them. It was a great day for learning and collaborating!”

- Elementary Nurse

“I’m impressed by the values of these companies and by the willingness of the employees to take time away from their jobs to teach us on what they do and what they look for in employees. The collaboration between Kettering school district and these companies is amazing!”

- Elementary School Counselor

“I want my students and their families to know that the qualities needed are reliability, communication skills and the ability to work as a team. This experience reinforced my understanding that the employees most likely to advance in their career field are problem solvers and critical thinkers.

“Firebirds in the Field”

Workforce Immersion

In partnership with the Kettering City Schools, the KCS Forward Foundation supports Firebirds in the Field workforce immersion experiences as approved by the KCS Forward Foundation and the KCS Department of Teaching and Learning.

Firebirds in the Field workforce immersion experiences are mutually beneficial for community partners as well as Kettering City Schools staff and students.

  • For business partners: Workforce immersion allows businesses to educate staff and teachers (one of the primary influencer groups on student career choices) about their business and career field, including the post-secondary education required.

  • For KCS staff: Teachers and staff will leave workforce immersion experiences educated about the modern world of work. This will allow them to better inform students about career options and better understand post-secondary career options outside of their own experiences. Staff will also share their experiences to better educate their peers. Staff will leave workforce immersion experiences with strategies to improve efficiencies and service in their field which can be put to practical use and shared with students and families.

  • For KCS students and families: Students can count on KCS staff being broadly educated about the world of modern work, so their career advice and course suggestions will be based on today’s workforce and training needs.
